['When I was in初中, my social studies teacher asked me to participate in a writing competition, which I decline without a second thought. I disliked writing then and still do, especially since my family comes from Brazil and English is my secondary language. The task seemed impossible to me, causing me immense distress. My teacher, however, saw potential in my stories and encouraged me to give it a shot. I selected Paul Revere's horse as my subject. Paul Revere, a silversmith in Boston, rode a horse at night on April 18, 1775, to warn people about the approaching British soldiers. My story, told from the horse's perspective, was both humorous and unusual, making it an unlikely choice for the contest.
Would the horse feel tired after riding through the night? Would it have doubts or want to quit? I could relate to the horse's plight. I felt exhausted, uncertain, and considering quitting. But like Paul Revere's horse, I persevered. I worked diligently, improved my spelling, sought my sister's help with grammar, and even borrowed several books on Paul Revere from the library.
After submitting the essay, my teacher read it, burst into laughter, and requested a rewrite. I complied, and submitted it again and again until finally, the prospect of winning gave way to the joy of writing. Even if I didn't win, I wouldn't mind.']
